When Faith and Pain Meet
If you are wondering how to trust God while you still hurt, you are not alone. Many believers pray for healing and hold tightly to Scripture. Still, they wake up each day carrying pain.
You may believe God is faithful and still wonder why the hurt remains. Trusting God in pain does not mean pretending the pain is small. It means holding on to His truth, His presence, and His peace while you wait.
This is where many of us find ourselves. It is a quiet, deeply personal struggle. We do not doubt God’s power nor deny His goodness. We are learning to trust His timing.
The waiting can feel long and heavy. Discouragement may whisper, “If healing has not come yet, maybe it never will.” But pain does not get the final word. God does.
Trusting God Through Pain and Suffering
When Faith Feels Hard
I have lived with arthritic pain since 2006. At times, it feels overwhelming. The cycle of physical pain and emotional weariness can be hard to put into words.
In those moments, I turn my attention back to the cross. I remember what Christ has done. My present struggle does not weaken His sacrifice. Christ’s work is complete. His Word is true. His compassion has not changed.
Sometimes faith is not loud or dramatic. Sometimes it is the quiet choice to stay anchored in what God has said.
Your body, emotions, or circumstances may tell a different story. Faith holds on to God’s character when life does not make sense.
Grace for the Waiting
If this is where you are today, God has not forgotten you. He meets us not only in breakthrough but also in the waiting.
God gives grace for today. He gives strength for the next step. He gives peace that steadies the heart. Healing is not only about a future testimony. It is also about learning to trust Him in the middle of pain.
Waiting on God for Healing
There are moments when this lesson becomes deeply personal for me. The pain in my body can grow so intense that it leaves me drained.
In those times, I turn my heart again to the cross. I remember the Lord Jesus Christ bearing sorrow and suffering. I hold on to the words of Isaiah 53:4: “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.”
As I return to that verse, a deeper question rises in my heart: Why did God give us promises of healing? Are they meant only to comfort us in suffering, or are they also meant to strengthen our faith to believe Him for healing?
I believe the promises of God do both. They comfort us when the journey feels long and invite us to keep looking to Christ with expectation.
God’s promises remind us that we are not abandoned in pain. They keep us from trying to manufacture hope on our own. God has spoken, and His Word gives us something steady to hold on to as we wait.
When Healing Has Not Come Yet
Even when healing is not immediate, God’s promise is not empty. His Word keeps drawing our hearts back to the One who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows.
It teaches us to trust not only in what God can do, but also in who He is. He is faithful, compassionate, and near.
Small Ways to Keep Trusting God
When the pain remains, faith may look like one small act of trust at a time. Pray honestly. Return to Scripture. Ask for strength today. Receive help from others. Choose to believe that God is still present.
These simple steps do not ignore the pain. They help anchor the soul in God’s faithfulness.
Trusting God when healing has not come yet does not mean pretending to be strong. It means returning again and again to His character, His promises, and His presence.
Even in unanswered pain, He remains faithful. In His faithfulness, our hearts learn to rest.
Questions About Trusting God While You Still Hurt
How do I trust God when I am still hurting?
You trust God while you still hurt by bringing Him your pain honestly, returning to His Word, and choosing to believe His character is steady even when your circumstances are not. Trust does not mean you never struggle. It means you keep turning toward God in the struggle.
Does trusting God mean I should stop praying for healing?
No. Trusting God does not mean you stop praying for healing. It means you keep praying with faith while also resting in God’s love, wisdom, and timing. You can ask boldly for healing and still receive His grace for today.
What does the Bible say about trusting God in pain?
The Bible reminds us that God is near to the brokenhearted, faithful in weakness, and present in suffering. Passages like Psalm 147:3, 2 Corinthians 12:9, and Proverbs 3:5–6 help us remember that God can be trusted even when healing has not come yet.
How can I keep my faith strong while waiting on God?
Keep your faith strong by taking one small step of trust at a time. Pray honestly. Read Scripture slowly. Ask God for strength today. Stay connected to people who can encourage you. Waiting on God is not passive; it is daily dependence on Him.
Lord, I come to You weary and hurting. Be near to me. Strengthen me in weakness, steady my heart with Your peace, and renew my hope each morning. Help me rest in Your faithfulness and trust You as I wait for healing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
