Even in Solitude, the Lord is Near
“For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him? “
— Deuteronomy 4:7 [NKJV]
Our Identity as Believers
As followers of Christ, we belong to a family that stretches across the world and throughout history. In Deuteronomy 4:7-8, the Bible describes believers as a “great nation,” set apart by God Himself. Does this mean we’re better than others? Not at all. It does, however, mean we have a special relationship with our loving Father. As beloved children welcomed home, we are invited into God’s presence at any time. When we say the Lord is near, we mean our identity as God’s people gives us confidence that we are never alone and that our prayers are always heard.
God is Near in Our Lives
God’s Word reassures us that His closeness isn’t just a comforting idea—it’s a living reality. Psalm 145:18 says, “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Imagine a parent who hears their child’s cry and rushes to comfort and help. That’s how God responds to us—full of compassion and understanding. Even when life is confusing or overwhelming, God’s guidance is like a lighthouse on a dark, stormy night. He shines the way, offering comfort in the storm, giving direction and hope when we need it most.
Practical Ways to Seek God
If you’re wondering how to experience God’s nearness in your everyday life, here are a few simple steps:
- Set aside time for prayer. Even five minutes in the morning or before bed can help you connect with God. Speak to Him honestly, just like you would with a trusted friend or a loving parent.
- Keep a record of God’s faithfulness. Write down moments when you sensed God’s help, comfort, or guidance. Looking back on these entries can encourage you during difficult times.
- Connect with other believers. Reach out to a friend, mentor, or pastor. Sharing your burdens and praying together strengthens your faith and reminds you that you’re not alone.
No matter what you face today, remember: the Lord is near, just as a parent is near to their child, and His presence is a steady light that leads you through every challenge. Keep seeking Him and let His love be your comfort and strength.
Let’s cherish God’s nearness—whether in moments of joy or struggle—and honor His faithfulness by drawing close to Him. As we do, we’ll discover the deep blessings of being His chosen people, never alone and always loved.
Heavenly Father, it feels good to know that You are always with me. Even when I feel lonely, You are nearby. Oh, how blessed I am to be a part of Your great nation of believers, and to know that I can call on You in times of need.
