“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;
You will stretch out Your hand
Against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.

The Lord  will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O Lord , endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”
— Psalms 138:7-8 NKJV

The Psalmist here expressed no shame in confiding in the Lord. Without a doubt, the Psalmist expressed confidence bestowed by the divine. It is the kind of confidence that can only come from the Lord. He will perfect those things that concern us and complete what He has begun. He will not come to our aid and then leave us. The Lord will not promise to save us and then retract it. He will not save our souls and then leave us to perish. Truly, such divine confidence assures us.

God-given confidence

To indulge in anything not rooted and grounded in God is futile. Know and believe that God can keep you from stumbling into sin. If you only believe, all things are possible. The Lord has begun a good work in us, and He will finish what He started (Philippians 1:6). If there is one stitch on our robe of righteousness that we must stitch ourselves, then we will be lost. However, we have confidence from the divine assurance that the Lord who began the garment will finish it. This is a sign of having genuine confidence from a divine source.

It is the Lord who has begun the good work within us; it is He who has carried it on, and if he does not finish it, it never will be complete. If there be one stitch in the celestial garment of our righteousness which we are to insert ourselves, then we are lost; but this is our confidence, the Lord who began will perfect. He can, He has, He must, and will complete that which He started. Our reassurance comes from divine confidence.

Unbelief Chokes Our Faith

Close your eyes, ears, and mind to unbelief, for it is like a cancer to your faith. It tries to make you feel unworthy. When it appears, unbelief insinuates, “There is evil in your heart; you can’t conquer your sin.” The suggestions pouring forth from unbelief will lead us astray. Doubt prompts us to give up on and distrust God. And if we give up our confidence in God, we will indeed perish. If left to our own strength, we could not navigate our frail bodies through the seas of life. This is why we need divine confidence.

Confidence inspired by the divine will not fail us. God has promised, and He will perfect that which concerns us. Therefore, when you receive a word from God, don’t doubt. Just say, “Nevertheless, at Your word,” and then do it. Today, guard your heart against unbelief. Maintain your peace by keeping your focus on the Lord. The Scripture says in Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Trust in that divine confidence, for it is our safeguard against faltering faith.
