“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.
“Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.”
— Matthew 17:15-18 NKJV
In this passage of Scripture, a desperate father brought his son to Jesus for healing. His son was in a serious dilemma, and all means of helping him had failed. The disciples should have been able to recover this man’s son, for Jesus had given His disciples power to heal (Mark 6:7). Yet they were powerless to do anything for the child. However, the despondent child was soon delivered from Satan’s grip. When the boy’s father obeyed the Lord Jesus’ command, “Bring him to me,” Jesus healed his son. In light of this, every parent should consider how important it is to bring their child to Jesus.
The Bible says that children are a precious gift from God (Psalm 127:3-5). Children can also bring great joy or extreme bitterness to their parents. They may be filled with the Holy Spirit or possessed by the devil’s spirit. But there is one word from Jesus that will cure all of their ills: “Bring him to me.” To see transformation, you must bring your child to Jesus in faith and obedience.
When all else fails, bring them to Jesus
Although many parents pray for their children from the time of their conception, sin is always present. We must constantly cover them with prayer. And as our children grow into maturity, the same spirits of Jesus’ day still torment them today. Maybe it won’t throw them in the fire or try to drown them; it still tries to kill them. And Jesus still commands us, “Bring them to me.” This is why it is vital to bring your child to Jesus, trusting in His power to deliver and restore.
The Lord sometimes allows the devil to drive us into a corner so that we may understand how necessary it is to have faith. According to your faith, God will cover your child. Ungodly children reveal our powerlessness to overpower the depravity of their hearts. When our children grow up, they may dabble in sin and be hostile toward God. We must never cease to pray for our children until they cease to breathe. No case is hopeless for Jesus. So, when our hearts are breaking, we should remember the great Physician‘s words, “Bring them to me.” Ultimately, one of the greatest responsibilities as a parent is to bring your child to Jesus and lay them at His feet in prayer.
