Hezekiah’s Story of Hope

If you were ill and near death, what would you do to be healed? When Hezekiah was sick and near death, the prophet Isaiah went to him and delivered a somber message from the Lord: “Put your house in order; you are going to die; you will not recover.” Imagine being sick, and the Lord visits you. He tells you that you will not recover and that you are going to die. What would you do? Despite his dilemma, Hezekiah did not have to think about what to do. He desired that God would give him a second chance. Therefore, without hesitation, he immediately turned his face to the wall of the temple. He poured out his heart to the Lord in earnest prayer, pleading for mercy. But His tears and fervent prayer did not go unheard. The Lord sent Isaiah back with a new message, granting Hezekiah an additional fifteen years of life. God showed mercy, offering Hezekiah a second chance.

God Gives New Life

Hezekiah had every reason to celebrate. Because of his faith, the Lord had not only granted him a reprieve from death but had also given him a second chance at life. This was an expected turn of events that overwhelmed Hezekiah with gratitude and amazement. God had answered his fervent prayer. Moreover, God healed his debilitating illness. While the Bible does not detail the specific activities of Hezekiah during those added fifteen years, it is easy to imagine that he lived his life with a renewed sense of purpose, his heart forever marked by the profound experience of divine intervention and a second chance at life.

Perhaps you have a desperate need, or you desire healing from an incurable disease. Don’t despair. Exhibit divine confidence. Bring your request to God in fervent prayer. Hezekiah’s story proves that our God is the God of second chances. When you approach God in faith, be thankful. He may change the course of your life and grant you a second chance.

Heavenly Father, I know You have not lived a perfect life. Therefore, I thank You for all the second chances You have given me.

Yes it does Willie. I have had more second chances than I can count: paralysis, stroke, divorce, addiction, and 3 heart attacks. I know firsthand that God gives second chances. Thanks for visiting with me, Willie. God bless you my friend.
