“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold.”
—1 Peter 1:7

The process of separating fine gold from alloys and impurities puts stress on the gold. This process is a test of your faith. Only pure gold can endure this process without losing its nature, color, and weight. Adversity, opposition, and affliction prove genuine faith. The many trials that we experience in life refine and purify our faith, as fire removes dross and impurities from gold. Our trials prove the reality of our faith. Stress can be a crucible, forging our faith into something resilient and radiant. It’s in the face of adversity that our beliefs are truly tested, revealing their depth and authenticity. When we navigate challenges with unwavering faith, we become beacons of hope, sharing our inner strength with the world and inspiring others to find their own way through the darkness.

There are times when God tests faith through shaking, and at other times, He uses fire. But the test of faith is much more precious than the test of gold, although both involve a purification process, a separation of the dross, and a discovery of their soundness. Gold does not increase and multiply by trial in the fire, while faith does. This forms a true test of your beliefs, as faith is established, improved, and multiplied by the opposition and afflictions that it meets with. While gold will ultimately perish, faith never will.

The Tempter Tests Your Beliefs

In Luke chapter 22, the disciples argued among themselves about their position in the kingdom. While they argued, Satan had plans to test their faith. He was intending to destroy the disciples, beginning with Peter.

“And the Lord said. “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
—Luke 22:31-32 NKJV

It may seem as though Jesus is only addressing Simon in these verses, but his words were meant for all the disciples. Jesus was aware that the devil would soon test their faith. Satan had already managed to corrupt Judas, and now he turned his attention to the remaining eleven, starting with Peter. Jesus understood that the devil had sought permission to attack their faith, and he wanted to assure his disciples that he had prayed for their perseverance.

Satan is the fire that God uses to refine our faith. When you profess your faith in God, know in advance that the devil will come to test your faith. But you have an advocate in heaven, who is praying for you. His name is Jesus, and He has prayed that your faith will not utterly fail. Even when doubts arise, your faith will endure.

Throughout the day, remember that trials refine and purify your faith. And while it may appear that God has forgotten you, He has not. Jesus, His Son, is the perfector of faith (Hebrews 12:2), and He will strengthen you today and forever.
