Imagine a sturdy tree, its branches heavy with ripe, colorful fruit. Now, picture an earthquake shaking that tree. The diseased fruit falls to the ground. This vivid picture reveals how God tests our faith through shaking when life’s quakes shake our hearts and lives.
The tree symbolizes our lives. Its fruit indicates our faith. The earthquake represents the trials and hardships we encounter. When “life’s quakes” shake our lives, the fruit that remains is a sign that our faith is genuine. The remaining fruit is also visible evidence of our spiritual maturity to everyone around us. Just as healthy fruit can nourish others and contain seeds for new growth, strong faith during life’s quakes can inspire, encourage, and support those we love and interact with. Our visible faith in tough times can feed hope in others or even plant new beginnings in their hearts.
God Promised to Shake the Earth Once More
When God gave the law at Mount Sinai, the earth shook with awe-inspiring force. The ground trembled violently beneath the mountain and the surrounding region. The people’s hearts raced with a mixture of fear and wonder. Flashes of lightning lit up the sky while thick smoke enveloped it.
Although we may not hear God’s audible voice or see flashes of lightning when God speaks today, we certainly are experiencing the shaking. The uncertainty brought by the world’s rapid changes, personal trials, and global events is real and leaves us unsure of what tomorrow will hold. The ground under our feet and all around us is shaking. Nothing is certain anymore. During these times of shaking, my faith has certainly been tested, and I’m sure yours has as well.
In these times of uncertainty, it is easy to feel anxious and overwhelmed by the unknown. The foundations we once thought were unshakable have suddenly become unstable. Yet, it is precisely in these seasons of shaking that we should anchor our hope in heaven. Instead of clinging to what is comfortable or familiar, He invites us to trust in His unchanging character and promises.
The challenges we face reveal the true strength of our faith. They remind us that our ultimate security comes from God’s steadfast love and faithfulness. Each tremor is an opportunity to let go of temporary supports and to build our lives on the solid foundation of Christ. When God tests our faith through life’s quakes, we discover a peace that cannot be shaken and a hope that endures, even when everything else is uncertain.
Agitation of the Heavens
God is shaking not only the earth, but also the unseen forces in the heavens. In Hebrews 12:26, He says,
“Yet, once more I shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”
The apostle Paul sheds more light on this shaking of the heavens. Ephesians 6:12 suggests that unseen forces play a significant role in the troubles we face.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
“Spiritual wickedness in high places” refers to spiritual entities that influence and drive destructive behavior and conflict among people. These forces operate beyond our physical senses and comprehension. They influence humanity as a whole—not just Christians.
The phrase “rulers of the darkness of this world” refers to the powers that influence and spread sin and ignorance throughout the earth. This perspective in Ephesians 6:12 explains why so much trouble and unrest exist in our world. It also highlights the impact of these unseen forces and their efforts to undermine human well-being and unity among Christians.
God’s Shaking Reveals Genuine Faith
Jesus expressed the importance of authentic faith when He asked,
“When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
— Luke 18:8
In a world full of distractions and challenges, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. I challenge you to ask yourself, “When Jesus returns, will He really find faith in ME?” What steps can I take today to strengthen my faith? Now is the time to consider what faith means to you and how it shapes your daily life.
God’s divine shaking is a reminder that His plan is unfolding and that every trial, every shift in our world, is ultimately leading toward a greater purpose—His promise to fill His house with glory. Under the Old Covenant, God lived in temples. However, under the New Covenant, God no longer lives in temples; He now resides in us, for we are the temple of the living God. The apostle Paul says,
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you.
— 1 Corinthians 6:19
Just as the physical trembling at Sinai demonstrated God’s power and presence, so too do the spiritual tremors we experience today reveal His ongoing work in our lives and in creation.
Are You Building Your Life on Shaky Ground?
Psalm 127:1 reminds us, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” This verse prompts us to pause and reflect: Who is building your house, is it the Lord or you? Are you constructing your life on shaky ground? Are you relying on the shifting sands of an unstable economy? Imagine losing your job unexpectedly. You might be tempted to rely solely on your own efforts or external circumstances. Yet, through faith, you can find strength to persevere, trusting in something greater than yourself—God. When life’s quakes shake your tree, will your faith remain strong? What steps can you take to ensure your foundation is secure? How can you trust in God during uncertain times? These questions invite us to look honestly at our lives and consider how we can anchor ourselves to a foundation that can endure God’s test of divine shaking.
Do we truly trust God, or have we built our lives on the shaky ground of comfort and convenience? The storms and uncertainties we face serve as a divine mirror. Consequently, they reflect whether our faith is genuine or merely superficial. It is in adversity that our response reveals the strength of our convictions. Do we cling to hope and God’s promises? Or do we falter and lose sight of Him?
Examine Your Heart and Let Go of Evil
In these times of shaking, when God tests our faith, He invites us to look more deeply into our hearts. He also invites us to assess the foundation of our faith honestly. Do we truly trust God, or have we built our lives on the shaky ground of comfort and convenience? The storms and uncertainties we face serve as a divine mirror. Consequently, they reflect whether our faith is genuine or merely superficial. It is in adversity that our response reveals the strength of our convictions. Do we cling to hope and God’s promises? Or do we falter and lose sight of Him?
God’s purpose in shaking us is to test and refine our faith. Through each trial, He strips away what is temporary and calls us to anchor our lives in what is eternal. As we persevere through hardship, our faith matures. It becomes a testimony to those around us. The fruit remaining after the shaking—steadfast trust, enduring hope, and deepened love—nourishes the soul and strengthens believers. These are the moments god tests faith and produces lasting growth.
Let Go of Temporary Comforts
Throughout these times of upheaval, we must seriously examine the foundation of our faith. Are we rooted in God, or are we relying on things that will not last? The shaking exposes what is temporary, urging us to cling to the eternal hope found in Christ. As the world around us shifts and changes, we must stand firm and trust in God’s promises, allowing His glory to shine through us.
God is shaking the earth once more. He urges us to let go of temporary comforts and everything that is not of faith. When the world around us starts shaking, we are confronted with the reality of what truly matters. It is in these times of disorder that the roots of our faith are exposed and tested. It is important to remember that God often tests the strength of our faith during such moments. God wants to remove distractions and everything that hinders our spiritual growth. In these times of shaking, we must stand firm, anchored in authentic faith that cannot be easily shaken. As we endure these moments of refinement, let us hold fast to God’s promises. We can do so knowing that He is working in us to produce lasting fruit in our lives.
Ultimately, what remains is the fruit of authentic faith, which nourishes us and those around us. The question is: When our world is shaken, will our faith withstand the test? Will it stand firm and bear fruit, or will it wither away and fall? Let us therefore strive to be among those whose faith remains strong, even as the foundations beneath us tremble. In summary, we find ourselves in situations where God tests our faith, and these tests strengthen those of us who love, believe, and obey Him.
