“God is our refuge and strength A present help in trouble.”
— Psalm 46:1 NKJV

God is our strength in times of trouble. Throughout the Bible, God says, “Do not be afraid.” That’s because God wants you to know He is always there to assist you in your distress.

Many times, when we experience setbacks, it seems as though God is far away. But don’t despair; things are not always as they appear. God is our strength. God is a very present help; trust that He is with you and always present to help. Believe that He is the Lord our Righteousness and that you have been made righteous. Trust that He will be with you in your dilemma and deliver you from the power of darkness. Rather than focus on how big your problem is, try focusing on how big your God is. Remember the times when God has intervened in your life, when you thought all hope was lost, and He came through for you. God sees you, and against all odds, He will come to your aid when you need Him.

Stability in God

“God is our refuge and strength. A present help in trouble.” This means that God is not just a place of safety, but also a source of strength in times of trouble. When Jesus’ disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee, they encountered a terrible storm. The storm would have indeed taken their lives if Jesus had not shown up to help them. The Bible says that Jesus was on the mountain praying when He looked down and saw the disciples desperately rowing their boat in the middle of the sea. They had been rowing for several hours but had only reached the halfway point of their journey. I’m sure the disciples thought they would perish in the storm. However, Jesus walked on the sea in their darkest hour to save them.

The Bible says Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Friends, Jesus loves you. He will never let you down. The Lord is and always will be our refuge and strength. He was a present help to the disciples, showing up in their time of need, and He will be a present help to you, showing up in your time of need. So don’t be afraid. Remember that God is your present help. He sees you in your storm. Determine in your heart that you will believe the word of God. All things are possible if you only believe.

Father, I thank You in advance for rescuing me in my trouble. I will not be afraid today because I know You are my present help.
