Foolish Arguments: Avoid Them

Featured Post Image - Foolish Arguments: Avoid Them

Titus 3:9 reminds us to stay away from foolish arguments, needless quarrels, and debates that lead nowhere. In other words, we are counselled to avoid foolish arguments in our daily lives. Today, let us reflect on how Christians can prioritize faith, peace, and goodwill. As we grow up in Christ, we should turn away from disputes that do not build faith. God has numbered our days on earth, so our time should be used wisely.

In these last days, time is precious. What better reason can we have for spending our days doing good?

Therefore, let us devote ourselves to good works. We should not spend our strength quarreling over matters that are, at best, of minor importance. Instead, it is wise to avoid foolish arguments and keep our focus on what brings glory to God.

At times, church leaders have given too much attention to subjects that were unprofitable for godly living. These matters often had little to do with salvation or a godly life.

What Titus 3:9 Teaches About Foolish Arguments

Christians should avoid unprofitable debates over questions like: “Which day is the true Sabbath, Saturday or Sunday?” and “Which denomination of Christianity is the true church?”

Such questions may seem important to some. Yet they are not worth the dissension and strife they can cause among God’s people. They also have no bearing on salvation because Christ fulfilled the law.

Choose Peace Over Needless Disputes

Questions about subjects where the Bible is silent can easily become unprofitable. This includes prophecies of doubtful interpretation, mysteries that belong to God alone, and church ceremonies.

Wise people avoid arguments that do not build faith. Rather than slipping into needless disputes, believers in Christ should avoid questions and answers that only lead to strife. Above all, to protect unity, we must avoid foolish arguments in the church.

Disagreements Are Unprofitable

The Scripture tells us in Titus 3:8 to strive to maintain good works. When we focus on what is useful and faithful, we leave less room for foolish arguments. Therefore, another key to spiritual growth is to avoid foolish arguments at all costs. Let us ask and answer wise questions, beginning with ourselves:

A Daily Reminder to Avoid Foolish Arguments

Today, be determined to become a listening ear to someone rather than a running mouth. Make peace your goal. Be a peacemaker and lead others by word and example. Whatever you do today, resist needless quarrels and choose the good works that honor Christ.

In summary, Titus 3:9 reminds us that foolish arguments, needless quarrels, and unprofitable debates pull our hearts away from what matters most. As followers of Christ, we are called to choose peace. We should pursue good works and use our words to build up the body of believers.
