“The rich think their wealth protects them;
they imagine themselves safe behind it.”
— Proverbs 18:11 MSG
Wealth often gives people the false impression of invincibility. They believe trusting their financial resources offers complete protection and security in every circumstance. The illusion of safety can become so strong that people overestimate the power of their wealth to shield them from life’s challenges. Unexpected illnesses, financial setbacks, or tragedies can quickly demonstrate that money is not a reliable source of comfort or assurance. Proverbs 18:11 reminds us that our beliefs and imaginations, however strong, do not translate into truth or reality. Having trust in, and believing a lie does not make it true, and imagining your safety does not ensure that you are safe.
One cannot find true safety in financial assets but in something deeper and more lasting. We can only find comfort and assurance in God. There is strength in faith that transcends material possessions. Even the largest fortune cannot protect against every storm life throws our way. When we trust in God, we cultivate resilience and build unwavering hope that transcends the limitations of earthly resources.
Instead of placing our faith in material possessions, let us turn to a source of true and enduring strength. Anchoring our confidence in God cultivates not just faith and integrity but also deepens our relationships. With our trust firmly placed in Him, we can weather any storm. While money may offer fleeting ease, it cannot deliver the security and purpose that only God can provide. Only when we root our trust in Him can we find genuine sustenance during life’s inevitable trials. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Those who trust Him will not be ashamed.
Lord, I want to trust You above all. Therefore, today, please help me to rethink my decisions to trust in material things. Strengthen my faith and protect me from unseen danger that money cannot answer.

Bro. Eric: Thank you so much for your most delightful perspective shared in this post. It brings to my memory two significant Scriptures: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?(Mark 8:36), This was a testimonial passage that my Grandfather shared with me. Also, there is this verse: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”(Proverbs 3:5-6). May God bless the hearer’s and doers of his word.
Thank you for your comment, and thanks for visiting with me. Somehow, I feel as though I know you. Your grandfather was a wise man.
This is a strong reminder that true safety and peace come only from God, not money or possessions. Trusting Him above all gives strength and hope no wealth can provide.
