What if you are richer than you realize? That question can change the way you see your life. Ephesians 1:3 reminds us that our greatest riches are not earthly possessions, but spiritual blessings in Christ.
Every Spiritual Blessing Comes Through Christ
Ephesians 1:3 CEV says, “Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for the spiritual blessings that Christ has brought us from heaven!”
This verse reminds us that every spiritual blessing comes from God and comes to us through Christ. These heavenly blessings reveal His grace, favor, and promised inheritance for those who belong to Him. If Jesus is your Lord and Savior, this promise applies to you.
That is why the apostle Paul does more than list our blessings; he begins with worship. Before he explains what believers have in Christ, he first turns our attention to the One who gave those blessings. The right response to spiritual riches is not pride, but praise.
That response is reflected in the language Paul uses. In the original Greek text, the word for praise is eulogetos. It comes from a verb that means “to speak well of.” When we recognize what God has given us in Christ, praise should rise naturally from our hearts.
We serve a rich God, and He has made us rich in Christ.
Earthly Riches Cannot Compare
This truth changes how we measure real wealth. If we already possess our richest blessings in Christ, then we must place earthly wealth where it belongs. It may help us for a time, but it can never compare with what God has given from heaven.
The wealth of this world rises and falls with the economy, stock markets, and life’s circumstances. But God settles the blessings we have in Christ in heaven, and our faithful God guarantees them.
Earthly riches can buy houses, land, influence, comfort, and opportunity. But they cannot buy what God gives freely in Christ: forgiveness, peace, eternal life, and a secure place in His family.
What we possess in Him cannot be lost or stolen. Our inheritance is eternal, and it makes every believer truly rich before God.
What Are the Spiritual Blessings in Ephesians 1?
In Ephesians 1, Paul shows us the spiritual blessings Christ has already given us:
Chosen. God set His love on us before we ever knew Him, loved Him, served Him, or decided to follow Him.
Made holy and blameless. God begins our salvation by His grace and purpose, not by our own goodness, strength, or religious performance.
Adopted. Through Christ, we no longer have to earn a place at God’s table. The Father has welcomed, loved, named, and claimed us.
Freed from rejection. God’s grace secures our place in His family, not the approval of people.
Redeemed and forgiven. Through the blood of Christ, guilt no longer has the final word. We don’t have to hide from God in shame, and we can extend grace to others.
Sealed by the Holy Spirit. God guarantees our final redemption and secures our inheritance in Christ.
These spiritual riches help us live with purpose, stand firm in faith, resist discouragement, and serve God with joy.
Christ has already provided every blessing we need for a faithful Christian life. Through Him, we have access to the immeasurable greatness of God’s power—the same power God displayed when He raised Christ from the dead.
Don’t Live Spiritually Poor
So don’t live as though you are spiritually poor while you possess heavenly riches. If you are in Christ, God has chosen, adopted, redeemed, forgiven, sealed, and secured you. Praise God for what He has already given. Walk in confidence because your inheritance is sure. Forgive freely because God has poured grace out on you. Serve faithfully because the power that raised Christ from the dead works in your life. Every spiritual blessing you need is already yours in Christ.
