Christ broke the curse when He went to the cross. He redeems everyone who accepts Him as Lord and Savior from the curse of sin and death. As the Book of Galatians explains, Christ brings freedom from the law’s curse and forms a new people through faith. Because Christ won that victory, we should pray according to Scripture and walk in the freedom He provides.
Pray According to Scripture
Scripture-based prayer aligns our desires and needs with God’s will because it anchors us in His Word. When we do not know what to say, the Holy Spirit helps us pray. This kind of prayer builds faith, helps us embrace freedom in Christ, and equips us to resist self-condemnation.
For instance, when fear rises, we can pray Scriptures that remind us of God’s presence and peace. When we face a difficult decision, we can ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom to choose what honors God. In both situations, Scripture redirects our attention from uncertainty to His promises.
Answer the Enemy’s Lies as One Redeemed from the Curse
After we pray for physical healing, the enemy may draw our attention back to our symptoms. He aims to shift our focus from God’s Word to the sickness. To resist that lie, we must answer it with Scripture and keep our attention on what God has said.
The same pattern can appear in other areas. After we pray for financial provision, the enemy may point to unpaid bills and tempt us to question God’s care. After we pray for peace in a relationship, he may replay past disagreements. Even then, we can answer doubt with Scripture and continue trusting God.
Find Victory over Condemnation from Your Past
I experienced this battle after God delivered me from addiction. The enemy repeatedly brought back memories of my mistakes, broken promises, and the people I had hurt. Those memories tried to fill me with guilt and shame.
He also tried to convince me that I had not truly changed and that my past still defined me. Even now, more than 27 years later, those accusations sometimes return.
Yet painful memories cannot cancel God’s mercy. Because Christ has redeemed us from the curse, we can use those memories as opportunities to reject condemnation, receive His grace, and move forward in obedience.
So I remind myself that God has forgiven me, delivered me, and given me a new life. In this new life in Christ, my past no longer defines me. I reject accusation, focus on what Christ has done for me, and choose victory over condemnation.
Stand on God’s Promises
When Satan says that your past is your identity or that your mistakes determine your future, do not accept his condemnation. Declare, “That is not who I am. My lies are not who I am. My mistakes are not who I am. God gave me a promise, and that is what I stand on. The curse is broken!”
Remember God’s promises when doubt and condemnation overwhelm you. In Christ, you are more than a conqueror, and your past does not have the final word. Stand in faith, reject the enemy’s lies, and walk confidently in freedom in Christ. Because Christ has redeemed you from the curse, you can overcome condemnation and embrace your new life in Christ. Christ broke the curse.
