“Brothers and sisters, pray for us.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:25 NIV
This morning, I have a special request for my readers: please pray for one another. Humanity is under attack from Satan and his spiritual forces of darkness. Ministers are our shepherds. Our shepherds need our prayers. The more we pray for them, the more we will benefit from their ministry.
When praying, we should not forget those who labor tirelessly to nourish God’s people with the Word. This nourishment is spiritual meat, bread, and drink. Christian bloggers and writers are in this group. Christian bloggers are not only ministers; they are also foot soldiers in God’s holy army.
As Christians, we have to pray for each other. As officers and soldiers in Christ’s army, we bear the especial mark of the hostility of men and demons. They lie in wait to silence our efforts. Their hatred for us gives us all the more reason to admonish one another through prayer.
Brotherly Love
Our sacred calling to pray for one another is a demonstration of brotherly love. Often, prayer draws us away from our personal enjoyment of life to stand in the gap for our brothers and sisters in Christ. But it is the sovereign will of our heavenly Father that we exhort one another in prayer.
The apostle Paul did not think it beneath him to ask the church in Thessalonica to pray for each other. Therefore, we should remember and remind all members of the body of Christ to pray for one another and express brotherly love.
“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. Brothers and sisters, pray for us. Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:23-27 NIV
Admonish Each Other
Admonish in the Bible refers to counsel, warning, and instruction through “one-on-one” confrontation or conversation. The Greek word for admonish is noutheteo, meaning to place on one’s mind. Motivated by love, we are to counsel, warn, and instruct others in the body of believers by reminding them of the truth of God’s word.
“We [earnestly] urge you, believers, admonish those who are out of line [the undisciplined, the unruly, the disorderly], encourage the timid [who lack spiritual courage], help the [spiritually] weak, be very patient with everyone [always controlling your temper].”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:44 AMP
Today, I remind and ask my fellow believers in Christ to pray for one another. In the words of Paul the apostle, “I am convinced about you, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, amply filled with all spiritual knowledge, and competent to admonish and counsel and instruct one another” (Romans 15:14 AMP).
