Healthy Eyes Healthy Spirit

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” — Matthew 6:22-23 NKJV

Healthy eyes and a healthy spirit are closely connected in Matthew 6:22-23. In this passage, Jesus teaches that the eye is the lamp of the body, showing that what we focus on shapes our spiritual condition. As healthy physical eyes help us see clearly, healthy spiritual eyes help us walk in truth, wisdom, and light.

What Matthew 6:22-23 Means

A healthy spiritual perspective is just as important as good physical vision. When our hearts are fixed on God, we are better able to discern truth, respond to challenges with faith, and live with peace. But when our attention is filled with confusion, fear, or spiritual compromise, our outlook becomes clouded. That is why we should look to Jesus, that we may have opened eyes to see life from God’s perspective.

Guard What Fills Your Eyes

Darkness is all around us, and much of today’s news reflects that reality. When we constantly fix our attention on fear, conflict, and negativity, that darkness can begin to shape our inner life. Over time, our spiritual eyesight grows dim.

Staying informed matters, but feeding your soul matters more. Before you scroll social media, watch the news, or absorb the pressures of the day, spend time in God’s word. The Scripture says in Hebrews 12:2 that we should fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of our faith. When we do this, the Lord will renew our minds, correct our focus, and fill our hearts with light rather than confusion.

How to Keep Your Spiritual Eyes Healthy

Healthy eyes reflect a healthy spirit. As you read the Bible, ask God to open your eyes, sharpen your discernment, and help you see clearly. The more you fill your mind with God’s truth, the more your life will reflect His light, wisdom, and peace.

Heavenly Father, clear my eyes and steady my heart. Help me turn from distraction and fix my focus on You. Fill me with Your light, Your peace, and Your truth today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
