Children of the Light

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

Children of the light remember what God has done for them in Christ. Scripture does not say we were merely “in the darkness.” It says we “were darkness.” Yet by His mercy, we have been delivered from the power of darkness.

Now we are light in the Lord. This is not because of anything good in ourselves. It is because His life is shining through us. Each day, He calls us to reflect His goodness, righteousness, and truth.

Light and darkness cannot remain together. Where the Lord shines, He begins to change what is hidden, wounded, and unfruitful in us. Ephesians 5:9 reminds us that the fruit of the Spirit is found in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.

As we yield to Him, our lives begin to change. Quietly and steadily, they bear evidence that we belong to the Lord.

The Light That Glorifies God

Jesus taught that the light of God is not something we are meant to hide or keep for ourselves.

His light is a gift we receive from Him, and it becomes a witness others can see through our conduct, our words, and our obedience.

When the light of Christ shines through us, our lives become a quiet testimony that points others back to the Father. The good works He produces in us are not for our own praise, but for His glory.

Jesus also reminds us that darkness resists the light because it exposes what is hidden. But those who desire truth are drawn toward the light. They are willing for their hearts and lives to be seen, searched, and shaped by God (Matthew 5:16; John 3:20-21).

Living as Children of the Light

To live as children of the light is to walk openly before God. We do not have to hide from the One who already sees us completely and loves us faithfully. People may never know every thought, motive, or burden we carry. But nothing is hidden from the Lord.

As Hebrews 4:13 says, “There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13).

Walking as children of the light also means asking God to let His light be seen in our daily lives. In our homes, conversations, decisions, and witness, we can reflect Christ in a dark world.

We may not know who is watching, listening, or quietly searching for hope. But God can use a surrendered life to help someone find the way out of darkness and into His marvelous light.

Light reveals God. It produces spiritual fruit. It also gently exposes what needs to change in us. The Word of God may search the heart, but it does so to lead us closer to Him.

For those who belong to Christ, His light calls us to repentance, obedience, and deeper fellowship. As children of the light, we do not make peace with darkness. We invite the light of Christ to shine in us and through us, so that others may be drawn to the Savior.

A Prayer to Walk in the Light

As we close, let us ask the Lord to search our hearts and help us walk faithfully in the light He has given us.

Dear God, thank You for bringing me out of darkness and making me light in Christ. Search my heart and shape my life. Let the light of Christ shine through me today. Use my words, my actions, and my witness to point someone toward You. Lead a lost soul out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. Amen.
