“Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old.”
— Isaiah 43:18 ESV
God has performed wonderful and marvelous works for us in the past. But we must still trust God for new things and never treat those moments as the only ways He can move. When we dwell too long on previous experiences, we may limit our expectations regarding how we trust God for new things. We should also consider not dwelling on the past so we don’t miss what God is doing now.
Isaiah 43:18 reminds us not to remain fixed on former things. God is always able to reveal fresh possibilities, new direction, and greater works than we have seen before. Therefore, we must trust God for new things in our lives.
Instead of becoming attached to what is familiar, shift your focus from what has been to what can be. This kind of faith keeps your heart open to new movements of God. It also helps you anticipate His goodness with confidence as you trust God for new things.
God is not limited by your past, your patterns, or your previous understanding of how He works.
Believe God for the Impossible
It may feel easier to believe God for small needs, such as paying the rent or getting through the week. But what about the business you have always wanted to start? What about the home you were told you could never afford? What about the opportunity that seems far beyond your reach?
Have you considered that God can do that, too? Abraham believed God for what seemed impossible. His body was old, and Sarah’s womb was barren. Still, he did not allow those facts to outweigh God’s promise.
Romans 4:19-20 says he did not waver in unbelief. Instead, he was strengthened in faith and gave glory to God.
Look Ahead With Expectation
It only takes one idea from God to move you from despair to fulfillment. Yet many times, we cling to familiar habits. They remind us of where we once experienced His blessing.
Comfort can be reassuring, but it can also make us hesitant to move forward. God has new opportunities prepared for your future. He can open doors no one can shut. In summary, to step into what God has in store, we should trust God for new things.
Always be mindful that God opens doors of opportunity that no one can shut.
When you resist the urge to remain attached to the familiar, you position yourself to receive the unexpected blessings God has prepared. Let go of past failures, old routines, and former successes that no longer move you forward.
Beginning today, consider how awesome God is. Expect Him to do greater things in your life as you walk by faith.
When I consider Your greatness, dear God, my heart is moved to praise. I honor You for what You have done. I thank You for what You are doing and what You will do in my life. Thank You, Father.
