It seems that every year, the storms of life get bigger and stronger. That means finding comfort in the storm is becoming increasingly complex. Examples of life’s storms, such as personal health issues, financial struggles, or relationship problems, can often feel overwhelming. Navigating these storms brings added stress. One way to find comfort in your storm is to give burdens to the Lord (Psalm 55:22).
Begin by having faith in God and refrain from worrying about things you cannot control. Worrying is like being in a boat in a raging storm. But when Jesus is in the boat with you, there is no need to worry or be afraid. His presence is our comfort, our support in the storm, for He can calm any storm.
Worry Brings Chaos
To find comfort in your storm, you must remain steady. The best way to remain steady in the storm is not to give in to worry. Jesus said,
“Therefore I say to you do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:25-34
When you know that God will take care of you, it not only brings comfort in your storm, but it also adds to your faith. Therefore, find comfort in the fact that your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need food and clothing, and he will give them to you if you give Him first place in your life and live as he wants you to. Therefore, don’t be anxious about tomorrow. Don’t worry about not having enough. Your supply will not run out before God sends rain.
Reassurance of Asking
Finding comfort in your storm requires nothing more than asking. Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now. Don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever difficult things come up when the time comes.
Heavenly Father, this is the day that You have made for me. You have purposely placed me where You want me to be. Therefore, today, I will rejoice and be happy, for You have given me comfort in the storm. I will not give in to my fears, nor will I let them worry me. I am comforted in knowing that You love me and that You will provide everything that I need.
