I know I was ready to fall,
but, Lord, your faithful love supported me.
I was very worried and upset,
but you comforted me and made me happy!
— Psalm 94:18-19 ERV
There were many times when I thought I would collapse under the weight of worry, disappointment, heartbreak, and anxiety. It felt as though my demise was inevitable, and my dilemma would overtake me. Yet, through it all, the Lord’s unwavering and faithful love supported me like “puppy love.” In those darkest hours, I found solace and strength not in my own resources but in the steadfast assurance of His love. When I reached my lowest point and fell flat on my face, He lifted me, gently wiped the tears from my eyes, and reassured me that He was always present. In those darkest hours, I discovered solace and strength not from my own resources, but from the steadfast assurance of His love.
Even in the midst of loneliness, I realized I was never truly alone. When I felt lost and broken, God never abandoned me. His profound and faithful love became the anchor that held me steady. In the face of life’s storms, His love guided me and offered hope for a brighter future.
God’s Steadfast Compassion
Back when I used to smoke crack cocaine, I distinctly remember times when I thought I would die. I was robbed once and nearly killed twice. During that era of my life, I was dependent on a substance that was trying to kill me. I was in love with something that didn’t love me. I was backslidden and in a state of absolute denial. But the faithful love of the Lord supported me, and His steadfast compassion and grace sustained me. Truly, I know that God gives second chances and makes the end better than the beginning.
Those experiences, though painful and life-threatening, became stepping stones. They ultimately led me closer to God. They served as a stark reminder of my vulnerability and my need for His unwavering strength and compassion. In those challenging times, the faithful love I experienced from God taught me the true meaning of surrender and the profound comfort that comes from placing my faith in something greater than myself. Truly, His love is faithful. Hear what the scripture says concerning His faithful love:
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.
—John 3:16-18 MSG
Heavenly Father, Your love is truly faithful. I thank You, dear Lord, for picking me up when I fall and for comforting me in my anger.
