“Look upon my affliction and my pain, and forgive all my sins.”
— Psalm 25:18 NKJV
David constantly sought God’s direction. David looked to God for guidance when perplexed, in doubt, in difficulty, and in danger. Like David, you must take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there.
When we pray, we often bring our afflictions to God, but we may overlook our sins. It’s essential to connect our sorrows with our petitions concerning our sins. The mind naturally links trouble and sin. So, when we are afflicted, we may wonder if it’s because of a particular sin. David took all his sorrow to God. But he also confessed his sin to God, experiencing the relief that comes from unburdening ourselves.
Friend, God cares so intimately for you that He even counts the hairs on your head. Whatever is troubling you, you don’t have to carry your burdens alone. It’s not your cross. Take your burdens to the Lord. He is always willing and able to help you. Our God is a very present help when we need Him. But you must not forget to take your sins to God, too. You must carry your sins to the cross and cover them with the blood of Christ.
Pray About Your Limitations
When David prayed about his sorrow, he said, “Look upon my affliction and my pain,” and in the same breath, he added, “…and forgive my sins.” David entrusted his cares to the Lord, leaving them in God’s care. Similarly, you can take your burdens to the Lord, knowing that you are not alone in carrying them.
The Bible assures us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). When we humble ourselves before God, acknowledging our iniquity, His holiness, and our utter helplessness, He is faithful to His promise of mercy. Christ’s sacrifice has made atonement for divine justice, allowing God to be just and the justifier of those who trust in Jesus. Today, take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there, knowing that His forgiveness cleanses and renews us.
Heavenly Father, I come to You now in the Name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I ask that You look upon my affliction and my pain. Forgive my transgressions, wash me from my iniquities, and cleanse me of my sins. Make me know Your joy and gladness, and forgive me of my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Forgive me for unforgiveness, unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, envy, deceit, hatred, and pride. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
