Trust in God

Do not trust in oppression,
Nor vainly hope in robbery;
If riches increase,
Do not set your heart on them.
— Psalms 62:10 NKJV

Our trust in God is necessary for spiritual growth. Faith in God gives us refuge from oppression and other challenges. We must trust Him at all times because the Lord is our refuge and our fortress.

David identifies several things people often rely on. The first is oppression. His warning highlights a basic truth: we should depend on God, not worldly systems or human power. Placing your trust in God begins with rejecting those false sources of security.

When we put God first, we gain strength and stability for life’s difficulties. Our faith also deepens our connection with Him and reveals the transforming power of unwavering trust.

Faith in God, Not Oppression or Riches

We must never believe that oppressing others will help us reach our goals. We should not force people to submit to our demands. Tyrants, conquerors, kings, and slave owners have done this.

David regarded his enemies as nothing. Regardless of their status or economic power, Scripture says that life is like a vapor. It appears briefly and then vanishes (James 4:14). Therefore, we should trust only in God.

David’s enemies gained power and wealth by oppressing and abusing others. He warned God’s people not to adopt their way of life. Tragically, many believers today trust in wealth, position, and human ability instead of God. Jesus warned that wealth can make entering God’s kingdom difficult.

Confide Only in God

To confide in God is to trust Him at all times and depend on Him for everything. We rely on His wisdom, goodness, power, promises, providence, and grace.

We must develop the habit of trusting God at all times. This means living in dependence on Him rather than trusting in uncertain riches or any created thing. We must trust Him in every circumstance and emergency.

As believers, we can trust God to guide and protect us in trouble. We can also trust Him to supply what we need.

Scripture describes unjust gain as profit obtained through dishonest, deceitful, or unethical means. Those who profit from oppression bring trouble upon their families (Proverbs 15:27).

The prophet Ezekiel also warned of God’s disapproval when people exploit others (Ezekiel 22:12-14). Therefore, we must not trust in oppression or dishonest gain.

Instead, we should follow David’s example and place our trust in God. Trust Him today for wisdom, strength, endurance, and grace.
