“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7
A default setting refers to a pre-established configuration in a device or software. When no alternative selection is made, the default setting is automatically applied. For example, when you purchase a new mobile phone, the factory presets the ringtone. If you want to personalize your phone, you must intentionally select and set a different ringtone. However, certain factors can influence or alter the default settings of a cellphone or computer. One such factor is a virus. A virus can infect the device’s hard drive, changing its default settings. As a result, the phone or computer functions contrary to its original design.
Our Spiritual Default Settings
When God created us, he configured our default settings to reflect His characteristics. In our original state in God’s garden, we were accustomed to casting down everything that was not of God (2 Corinthians 10:5). However, over time, various life circumstances alter our pre-established settings. Ultimately, our default settings change when the sin virus infects our thought process. That’s why it is easy to default again to worry when confronted with anxiety in challenging situations.
However, as we journey through life, various circumstances influence and alter these pre-established default settings. Experiences, challenges, and trials can all contribute to shifting our spiritual defaults. Over time, these changes accumulate and can significantly impact how we respond to situations.
Ultimately, our default settings undergo a profound change when the “sin virus” infects our thought process. This unrighteous spiritual infection disrupts our original design. It makes it much easier for us to default to worry and anxiety when faced with challenging situations. Instead of naturally casting our cares upon the Lord, we find ourselves defaulting to worry.
Reset
There is, however, a way to override the sin virus and return your thought process to its original default settings of love, peace, joy, and happiness. You need only to cast your care upon the Lord Jesus Christ, for He cares for you. The Lord pre-established our default setting to trust and depend on Him. So, whether you are confronted with trials or the loss of a loved one, you can cast your care upon the Lord. When you feel you have no strength, and life is weighing you down, cast your care upon the Lord.
In moments when life’s demands feel too heavy, and we struggle to find the strength to continue, remember that our original design empowers us to depend on God. By entrusting our worries, fears, and anxieties to Him, we experience a renewal of our spiritual default settings. God restores them to the love, peace, joy, and happiness that He intended for us from the beginning.
Dear Lord, restore my spiritual default settings to reflect Your love, peace, joy, and happiness.
