In Christianity, the Rapture is a sudden event that entails the belief that both living and deceased believers will be taken up into heaven to meet Jesus Christ. We often confuse the Rapture with the Second Coming of Christ. But, upon careful examination of the scriptures, it becomes apparent that these are two distinct events. According to the Bible, the Rapture will transpire instantly. It will happen in an atomic second –“in the twinkling of an eye” (Matthew 24:42-44). However, the Second Coming will be a visible spectacle. When Jesus returns to the earth, He will return in the clouds, and every eye will witness His arrival (Revelation 1:7; Acts 1:11).

Let us not be consumed by life’s distractions. We should, instead, prepare for the imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ. This preparation is not a passive act, but a call to action, a responsibility we must take seriously. While the Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ share similarities, they are distinct events. Both entail Jesus’ return; however, believers must recognize the differences and act accordingly.

The Bible does not provide a specific timeline for these events. However, it offers insight into the signs that will precede them. Understanding these signs is not just a matter of curiosity but a crucial part of our faith journey. According to Jesus, the first sign of His return will be deception. He also warned that there would be wars, famines, pestilences, and earthquakes near the end of the age. One thing is sure: these events are the beginning of sorrows, signaling the approaching end of the age (Matthew 24:42-44).

The Rapture Message Is Encrypted

I frequently emphasize that God conceals wisdom in unexpected places. He has a way of hiding profound truths in plain sight. Although the Bible does not use the term “rapture,” it doesn’t negate its significance. God weaves the idea of the Rapture into the fabric of the biblical text. It is an encrypted message explicitly meant for believers. Encryption functions as a powerful tool for data security, transforming information into ciphertext and allowing only those with the key to decipher the underlying message. Understanding this knowledge underscores each believer’s vital and integral role in interpreting the Rapture’s divine message and understanding its significance.

When the disciples asked Jesus why He spoke in parables, His response sheds light on the nature of divine revelation: “To you, knowledge about the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven is given, but to them, it is not.” This implies that unlocking the encrypted messages in the Bible requires a level of revelatory knowledge from God. It requires understanding that is not from this world. It is akin to a form of divine data security, much like how we protect digital information with encryption, making the understanding of the Rapture exclusively accessible to believers seeking truth over comfort. Just as encryption renders data indecipherable to unauthorized individuals, the knowledge of the Rapture is concealed from those who do not possess the key, which is the knowledge and understanding God bestows.

Key Events Preceding Christ’s Return

Jesus warned of the deception that will take place before the Rapture and His return. According to 1 Timothy 4:1-3, the Holy Spirit has forewarned us that people will not listen to the truth in the last days. They will give heed to lying spirits and teachings that are contrary to the Bible. The Bible promotes love, compassion, respect, and forgiveness, and emphasizes that God alone is the Judge, with judgment lying entirely in His hands. Today, individuals judge the most intimate aspects of a person’s private life. Some pastors deliver sermons with undertones of division, and in the political arena, candidates spread lies, disrespect, and division. Then, they blame others for their failures. Undoubtedly, we are living in the last days. It’s more important than ever to uphold Biblical values over religious doctrine in the face of deception and division.

I am confident that we live in the time preceding Christ’s second coming, and God imparts revelation to those seeking it. Before Jesus returns, kingdoms will rise against each other, and starvation, pandemics, and earthquakes will occur in various places. More than 45 armed conflicts exist in the Middle East and North Africa. In Africa alone, there are more than 35 conflicts. There are 21 conflicts in Asia, 7 in Europe, and six armed conflicts in Latin America. Global hunger has become a worldwide crisis. According to worldvision.org, 1 in 10 of the world’s population faces chronic hunger. These global conflicts suggest that we are living in the end times.

The Rapture

The Rapture will occur in the air. The Apostle Paul describes the Rapture in detail in the New Testament books of 1 Thessalonians and 1 Corinthians. In 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Paul instructs us not to be ignorant about the Rapture.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who remain alive shall be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall always be with the Lord.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Many Christians believe the church will experience the end-times tribulation, a seven-year period during which God will finalize His judgment of the unbelieving. They base this assumption on the story of the Exodus, in which God protected His people from the nine plagues mentioned in Exodus 7:14-10:29. However, I offer a unique view, one that is distinct from the traditional belief and based on the end-time revelation of Jesus that He gave to His servant John. John says,

“After this, I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me, like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”
— Revelation 4:1

In his letter to the church in Thessalonica, Paul wrote,

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.”
— 1 Thessalonians 4:16

I submit to you that John saw the event that Paul wrote about—the Rapture. This unique perspective adds a new dimension to our understanding of the end-times tribulation.

The Second Coming of Christ

The second coming of Christ will occur at the end of the age when Christ returns to earth to abolish evil, finalize His judgment of the unbelieving, and cast Satan and evildoers into the lake of fire. Jesus compared His return to a thief breaking into a house. He said if a homeowner had known the hour the thief would come, he would have watched and prevented the thief from breaking into the house. Like the homeowner, as believers, we should be even more vigilant. When Christ returns to earth at the end of the age, He will fight His final battle at Armageddon.

Time Is Running Out

Not everyone will experience the Rapture, but every soul will stand before God on Judgment Day. This day is inevitable, and we must prepare for it. There are two profound judgments, both of which center on our actions. The first is the Judgment Seat of Christ. This judgment is for believers. Here, they will account for their righteous deeds and receive eternal life as a token of their unwavering faith in Jesus, the Son of God (John 5:24). The second judgment, the Great White Throne Judgment, promises a stern evaluation of the deeds of those who do not believe. Here, God will judge them for their sins, and He will condemn them to everlasting punishment. (Matthew 25:41).

Scripture states that God desires everyone to be saved from eternal damnation and to come to the knowledge of the truth. You don’t have to stand in the second judgment, which is the final judgment of all humanity, as an unbeliever. You can stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ. The choice is yours. The Bible says in Romans 8:1 that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Time is running out. The banquet is ready, and there is room at the table for you. Come to the table and receive the gift of salvation today by acknowledging the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior right where you are. Just pray: “Lord Jesus, I receive You as my Savior. Come into my life, and be my Lord.” If you prayed this prayer, be assured that you are saved.
