Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.”
— Exodus 14:13
The Scripture in Exodus suggests that when we don’t know what to do, we should stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. But how can we stand still and do nothing when we are unable to move forward or back? It is hard to stand still with trouble closing in on both sides. In times of profound challenges—be it through the grips of illness, financial turmoil, or troubled relationships—every believer must hold fast to God’s command to “Stand still.”
When confronted with adversity, we must remember that the Lord saves His people. Stand still and perceive the Lord’s salvation. It is in that stillness, a place of strength and resilience, that we will witness the Lord’s deliverance. Therefore, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. Remember that in moments of great struggle, there is power in remaining steadfast and trusting in God’s deliverance.
We must train ourselves to heed only the voice of God’s command. In times of trouble, a chorus of misguided advisers may emerge. Each tries to sway us with their empty suggestions. Timidity yells, “Retreat! Return to the comforts of the world; being a Christian is just too hard.” Despair whispers, “Give in! Just lie down and surrender; you can’t possibly win— the odds are against you.” Yet, no matter how many voices try to coax you into defeat, stand firm. In standing still, you will behold the salvation of the Lord. Never lose heart. God, who is always with you, is your strength and security every step of the way. Neither death nor hell can hinder your divine mission to forge ahead.
Let Go and Let God
At times, we may encounter moments when God commands us to stand still to regain our strength for upcoming challenges. During these moments, external pressures may prompt us to act quickly. They lead us to believe that inactivity is equivalent to idleness. Despite such pressures, stand fast and envision His salvation.
Let go of your anxiety and let God take care of whatever troubles you. The Scripture says in Romans 10:13 that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Negative influences will attempt to convince you that you must do something. They tell you to take action to ensure your success. But rather than succumb to these pressures, look to the Lord instead. In His perfect timing, He gives us hope and patience. If we stand firm in our faith and stand still in our actions, we will see the salvation of the Lord. Not only will He do something, but He will do everything; you need not lift a finger, for the battle is the Lord’s.
Hear Only the Voice of God
Many voices speak to us when trouble arises. Presumption boldly proclaims, “The sea is right there before you. Step into it and await a miracle from your God.” Yet, true faith does not heed the calls of presumption, despair, cowardice, or rashness. Instead, faith attunes itself solely to God’s command to “Stand still.” Consequently, faith stands firm and unwavering, like an immovable rock, trusting and seeing the salvation of the Lord.

When you feel trapped and powerless, remember God’s command, “Stand still.” This posture is not one of defeat; rather, it embodies readiness and faith. As a steadfast believer, trust that God will soon issue you a fresh command, “Go Forward,” just as He did for the Israelites through Moses. Stay the course, embrace this truth, and see deliverance through the Lord’s salvation. Prepare your heart for the journey ahead.

Stand still and trust. When we feel surrounded, He is still in control. Let go, listen only to His voice, and watch Him move. The battle is the Lord’s…. He will carry us through. 🙏
