Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you.
2 Chronicles 20:15,17; Exodus 14:13
The Lord’s command to us is that we stand still when tremendous tribulation comes. It is what we are supposed to do when the enemy surrounds us. While God tells us that we will not need to fight, He tells us to position ourselves for the fight. It sounds confusing, but it’s not.
It’s Not Your Fight
Ephesians 6:12 is a popular verse among believers. We all quote, rehearse, and proclaim it, but we deny the substance of the verse. I like the Living Bible translation, which reads:
“For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies—the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world.”
Ephesians 6:12 TLB
Friend, we are fighting spirits. Without God, we cannot win the fight. That is why God tells us to stand still and position ourselves for the fight. The position of warfare for the believer is on our knees. We fight spirits with the potent weapon of prayer, not with physical weapons or war. God expects that we walk and fight by faith. Therefore, we endeavor to fight the good fight of faith. It stands to reason that God would instruct us to position ourselves for the battle while also advising us not to fight.
Be Unmoving
Despondency tells us to lie down and die. It tells us to give up; you can’t win. But God tells us to fight the good fight of faith. And when you have done all that you can, stand, that is, stand your ground. Whatever you do, don’t give up. Cowardice will ask you to retreat. It says that praying is nonsense. But be encouraged and fight back. You are not going to gain anything on your knees?”
God tells us that if we stand still and wait on Him, we will not have to fight. The devil may urge us to hurry up and rush into the battle, but faith does not obey the voices of presumption, despair, cowardice, and precipitancy. Faith obeys only God, and God says, “Stand still, it’s not your fight.”
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to wait for you. Today, I will not use my faculties to fight another person, whether or not they believe in You. I will position myself for whatever the enemy brings my way. I know the fight is not mine, for You are the object of the enemy’s hatred. Therefore, I will stand still and look to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
