In 1977, I was a keyboardist in a rhythm-and-blues band. I co-wrote and produced a Christmas record for my friend David Rivet, also known as “the Bionic I (One).” “Disco Claus” became one of my favorites. It is a joyful Christmas disco song that my family still enjoys during the Christmas season.
A 1977 Christmas Song for Kids
“Disco Claus” was written as a 1977 Christmas song for children during the disco era. It is also a Christmas song for kids with a bright groove and playful spirit. In the song, David Rivet plays a happy disco Santa Claus who spreads happiness with his magic dust.
A Family Memory in the Studio
Part of the reason this song is so personal is that my son, Eric, directed the children in the chorus during the recording session. He was only 5 years old. Today, Eric is an accomplished pianist, songwriter, producer, and music instructor. His professional name is “Cire Nicholas.”
A Funky Christmas Song That Still Brings Joy
When I look back, those moments in the studio are among my fondest memories. They were filled with laughter, music, and togetherness.
The funky keyboards, joyful children’s voices, and David Rivet’s lively performance made this funky Christmas song unforgettable. It also became a special piece of children’s holiday music.
Over the years, “Disco Claus” has become a cherished family tradition. It is family Christmas music that brings joy every December and reminds me how music connects families and friends.
Each Christmas season, when the song resurfaces, it brings back nostalgia and laughter. The infectious groove and playful lyrics make it feel like a holiday dance song. It invites everyone—young and old—to dance, just as we did in the studio.
Even now, those opening notes carry me back to that vibrant time. I remember being surrounded by friends, family, and the unmistakable energy of disco. Sharing “Disco Claus” helps me connect with new generations and pass along the joy behind the song. When you hear it, I hope you will pass it on.
Disco Claus Finds a New Audience
Disco Claus has found a new audience in Germany, thanks to Tramp Records. I hope it brings you as much joy as it brought me when we recorded it. You may listen to Disco Claus for a Christmas blast from the past.
“Disco Claus” is more than a 1977 Christmas song. It is a piece of family Christmas music, children’s holiday music, and joyful disco history. I hope this funky Christmas song brings a smile to your face, gets your feet moving, and reminds you how music can carry love, laughter, and Christmas memories from one generation to the next.
Wishing everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS!
