While self-confidence can be a strength, it often leads to spiritual pitfalls and can stifle genuine growth. Relying on our own abilities may feel more comfortable than placing our trust in the Lord and seeking to live righteously. To cultivate God-confidence, we must embrace hope and assurance as Christ exemplified (Hebrews 3:1-6). We must steer clear of the seductive lure of self-reliance. It can trap us in stagnation and prevent us from reaching our full spiritual potential. When you love God, you will trust God, because trusting in God empowers you to rise above your limitations. Moreover, it allows you to experience transformative growth.
“For we must never forget, dear brothers, what happened to our people in the wilderness long ago. God guided them by sending a cloud that moved along ahead of them, and he brought them all safely through the waters of the Red Sea. This might be called their ‘baptism’—baptized both in sea and cloud!—as followers of Moses—their commitment to him as their leader.
“And by a miracle, God sent them food to eat and water to drink there in the desert; they drank the water that Christ gave them. He was there with them as a mighty Rock of spiritual refreshment. Yet after all this most of them did not obey God, and he destroyed them in the wilderness. So be careful. If you are thinking, ‘Oh, I would never behave like that’—let this be a warning to you. For you too may fall into sin.”
Trust God
God accompanied Israel throughout their challenging journey in the wilderness, a time filled with hardship and uncertainty. They witnessed God’s incredible goodness when He miraculously provided them with food and water in the desert. Although they possessed strong self-confidence, they fell short of trusting God. They needed divine confidence. Despite His constant provision for their needs, they struggled to depend on Him.
If we trust Him, God will make a way; the Spirit of God led Israel through the desert. He guided them in a cloud during the day, a pillar of fire by night, and safely brought them through the Red Sea. However, many of them perished in the wilderness due to their persistent grumbling, which deeply displeased God.
The journey to developing true God-confidence begins with a commitment to stop complaining. Instead of thinking, “I would never act like the Israelites,” take a moment to recognize the crucial difference between self-confidence and God-confidence. As you nurture your faith in God, you will cultivate patience. This is a powerful virtue empowering you to trust in Him above your own understanding. It fosters a spirit of gratitude and reliance on His providence.
Remember, God loves you immensely and desires the best for you. Take time today to reflect on His unfailing love. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you, and be ready to see how He powerfully shows up in your life.
Father God, today, I trust that You will help me develop God-confidence, the kind of confidence that trusts and depends on You for my provision. I know that You are my source of provision. I pray that You will continually guide me through the desert of my troubles. Moreover, quench my thirst with the refreshing water that only Your Holy Spirit can provide.

I agree that we should develop a God confidence, rather than a self-confidence. However, that could be a slippery slope recognizing the difference. Obviously, praying is the answer which gives one clarity to avoid slipping into a wrong self-confidence.
