Let us be thankful for Thanksgiving Day, a beloved family tradition in America and Canada. This annual November celebration, typically filled with joy and gratitude, can sometimes contrast with our struggles. I recently overheard someone say, “I have nothing to be thankful for. I lost my job, my car broke down, my dog died, and my best friend would not answer my phone calls. What is there to be grateful for?” It’s a sentiment many can relate to. But even amid such challenges, waking up each morning is a reason to be thankful.

Thankfulness is a State of Mind

Thankfulness is a profound state of mind, deeply rooted in faith. The Bible instructs us to be thankful to God for everything (Ephesians 5:20). It’s easy to be grateful when life is good, and all our desires are met. But when chaos and disappointment overrun our lives, maintaining a thankful attitude becomes challenging. Yet, with faith, even the most ungrateful heart can be transformed into a heart of thanksgiving.

You can uplift your spirit and create an attitude of thankfulness by thinking of someone else rather than focusing on yourself. I am sure you have heard of Job in the Bible. This man, Job, was very prosperous. He had everything that anyone could desire. He had a large family, lots of land, numerous possessions, and many servants. But within one day, Job lost all of his possessions, and he was afflicted with painful sores all over his body. No one knows how long Job suffered. However, we understand that the circumstances of his life turned around when he prayed for his friends. This demonstrates that even in the face of immense hardship, shifting our focus to others can bring unexpected blessings and a renewed sense of gratitude.

Let us be thankful for Thanksgiving Day—not only for the food, fellowship, and excitement but also for the gift of life, health, and love. We are only capable of love because God loved us first. His love inspires and provides the source of our ability to love others, even in the face of life’s challenges.

Our Prayers for You and Your Family

Heavenly Father, we thank You for this and every Thanksgiving Day. We are grateful for your presence, for your health and strength, and for allowing us to spend this day with those dearest to us. May the light of Your love enlighten our hearts so that we may love others as You have loved us. Fill us with the knowledge of Your will. Give us wisdom and spiritual understanding. Enable us to rise above the adverse circumstances of life. We ask that You keep us safe from bodily harm as we return home. Let Your love rest, rule, and abide in our hearts forever. Amen.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
