The word of the Lord for you today is: Your supply will not run out. Whatever you have is sufficient until the day the Lord sends more. There is no need to worry about your insufficiency. The story of Elijah and the widow is your confirmation that if you trust God and are obedient to do what He says, your supply will not run out.
No Provision
Elijah had proclaimed a drought in Gilead. When King Ahab saw that Elijah had stopped the rain, he sought to kill him. But the Lord told Elijah to go to the Brook Cherith and hide. There, He would send ravens to feed him. So, the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and the afternoon, and he drank from the brook, and his supply of food and water did not run out.
After a while, the brook dried up because there had been no rain on the land. So God told Elijah to go to Zarephath, where He had commanded a widow to provide for him. When he arrived at the city’s gates, just as God had said, there was a widow gathering sticks. Elijah asked her to give him a cup of water and a small piece of bread in her hand.
She said to Elijah, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
Elijah replied, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first and bring it to me, and afterward, make some for yourself and your son.” So, she did as Elijah said, and she and he and her household ate for many days. Her supply of food and water did not run out.
Trust God to Fill Your Need
God performs the miraculous when we walk by faith, not by sight. We must remember that God is the source of our provision. We cannot let our feelings and thoughts get in the way of our blessings. Elijah and the widow were in great peril, but they trusted God. The Israelites considered a raven to be an unclean bird. I am sure Elijah had reservations about eating food brought to him by a bird that eats roadkill. And the widow did not know nor worship the God of Elijah. But despite their differences, she trusted Elijah’s God, and her faith kept them alive through the famine, and their supply did not run out. When everybody else was experiencing severe drought, Elijah and the widow had sufficient food and water.
Are you willing to trust God when you lack provision? Have faith; believe Him when He says, “Your supply will not run out.” Rather than grumble about what you don’t have, are you willing to be obedient and do what God says to get what you need? Going into the unknown is always frightening. But you have to be good with not knowing what God is doing. Trust Him for your needs, and your supply— whatever it is— will not run out.
Father God, I receive Your word of knowledge. I thank You for what You have given me, and I trust You to supply the things I need. I trust that You will provide all of my needs today. Amen.
