“The Lord has revealed our Righteousness. Come, and let us declare in Zion, the work of the Lord, our God.”
— Jeremiah 23:6

The Lord our righteousness is more than a title we ascribe to God (Jeremiah 23:6, NKJV). When we think of Christ’s perfect righteousness, the quiet, reassurance, and peace, it should immediately energize us. Consider how often Christians complain of despondency and sadness. It is because we are more cognizant of the enemy’s voice than the voice of our God.

The Bible tells us to beware of Satan’s tricks. One of the tricks he uses to bamboozle us is making us aware of our self-righteousness to avert our thoughts from the Lord. The devil does not want us to know that the Lord, our righteousness, has already accepted and made us righteous. He makes us seek to establish our self-righteousness without submitting to the righteousness of God (Romans 10:3).

The devil will speak down to you through you. He will make you tell yourself things like, “You don’t deserve that,” “You will never reach your goal,” and. “You’re too old to get that degree.” But as the older saints say, “THE DEVIL IS A LIAR!” Do not listen to him! If people only knew that they could reach perfection through Christ, I don’t think anyone would be discouraged by Satan’s lies.

God Has Made Us Perfect Through Christ

My day got off to a bad start this morning. I did something I don’t usually do: I turned on the news before my morning prayer. I entertained the world’s troubles before I communed with my God. Without realizing it, I allowed the negative talk about violence and corruption, the depravity of the heart, and the evilness of people to affect me negatively. Listening to the news this morning made me feel unworthy and imperfect.

But I did not take long to pick up on what was happening. I immediately changed my thoughts. I began to think about God and say, “The Lord is my righteousness. Therefore, I am the righteousness of God in Christ. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for me, that I might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21).”

No wonder those who dwell on corruption wear long, defeated faces. They do not know that the Lord is their righteousness. Hence, they look at their self-righteousness, which always falls short of God’s glory.

Friends, I declare that the Lord is your righteousness, and He has made it right for you. God says of you: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” So, tell yourself what God says of you whenever you feel inadequate. Don’t let the negative things of the world affect you negatively; remember that you are already perfect in Christ Jesus.

Grace Negates Fear

Christ has done it all. There is nothing left for us to do but believe. On the cross, Jesus said, “Finished!” If He finished it, then I am complete in Him. I can rejoice with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory: “Not having my righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.” On this side of heaven, you will not find happier people than those who know the Lord Jesus Christ is our righteousness.

If your world comes crashing down on you today, trust that Jesus will deliver you. Have faith that He will deliver you from whatever is coming against you, including fear, depression, addiction, and a downright terrible day.

Lord Jesus, I rest in You solely for my deliverance. No matter how unworthy I feel, I will remind myself that I am God’s righteousness. I know that You did not save me because of my self-righteous works. You saved me because of my faith in You. Father, I thank you for the gift of Your Son, for He is the Lord our righteousness. AMEN!
