Rekindle Your Faith in Troubling Times

There are many uncontrollable occurrences, such as natural disasters, murder, Alzheimer’s, and diseases like cancer, that can tax your belief system. Before long, you wonder why God allows such pain in the world. Little by little, you meander further from God until doubt supplants your faith. You never intended to move away from God. You don’t know how, but it just happened. And now you want to learn how to rekindle your faith in God.

Walk by Faith, Not by Sight

The Bible says believers are to walk by faith, not sight. But when you try to rejuvenate your faith, you realize how increasingly difficult it is to walk by faith in a troubled world so bereft of faith. Before you attempt to rejuvenate your faith in God in a faithless environment, I suggest you remember what faith is. Faith is more than believing in something or someone. It is more than hoping that something will come to pass or that someone won’t let you down. Faith is the bridge that links us to the spiritual realm and makes God a touchable reality in our minds. By faith, we create our worlds. We are confident that the unseen world is real. Therefore, we believe what we visualize in the spiritual realm will manifest as reality in this physical world.

We are made righteous by faith. It is by faith that we receive all the benefits of being righteous. The reason your faith is in decline is that Satan, the devil, shows up to rob you of your faith in God. Satan knows that without faith, you cannot receive anything from God. The devil does not care that you believe in God; he does not want you to believe God’s word. Some people think the devil is out to steal their possessions. The Bible tells us that Satan is a thief and a robber. But the devil does not want your stuff; he wants your faith. He will use any means necessary to shake your faith, from personal struggles to societal issues, to make you doubt God’s love and promises.

Why Your Faith is Under Attack

Attending church would be an excellent place to start if you are trying to rekindle your faith or increase your faith in God. But recovering your faith will take much more than going to church. The devil does not mind you going to church. It may come as a surprise to some people, but the devil goes to church too! While we go to church to worship and hear the word of God, the devil goes to church to cause strife and confusion among God’s people.

Attending church is a great starting point to rekindle your faith in God. However, it’s essential to understand that church attendance alone won’t shield you from Satan’s attacks. Yet, it will provide you with valuable knowledge, helping you understand the true character of God and guiding you in your faith journey.

Believing in God is Not the Same as Believing God

There’s a significant difference between believing in God and believing God’s word. Believing in God simply acknowledges His existence, a belief even demons hold. However, when you believe God’s word and take it to heart, it has the power to transform your circumstances. This discernment is crucial in understanding and strengthening your faith.

When you believe God, that is, take Him at His word, the debilitating circumstances surrounding your life will change. That is when Satan will begin relentlessly attacking to preclude your faith. So, if you have been under attack, whether in your life, your body, or your finances, here are three practical tips that will help you rekindle your faith in God: 1. Pray regularly and sincerely, 2. Read and meditate on the Bible daily, 3. Surround yourself with a supportive faith community.

I believe one of the reasons we suffer from declining faith is that we have not fully grasped how much God loves us. We know God is love; we understand that God loves people, but we have no idea how much God loves us individually. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” This scripture verse is one of the most quoted scriptures in the Bible. It speaks volumes about God’s incredible love for people. Before you or I even knew God existed, He sent His Son to die in our place to restore to us the eternal life that Adam forfeited in the Garden of Eden.

Be Confident of God’s Love for You

God could have given up on Adam. He could have flushed him down the drain and made a new man. But God loved his beloved Adam. He saw how much would be lost if He gave up on Adam. Everyone was in Adam’s loins when he sinned, including you and me. That meant losing every soul in the world to death. So, rather than disposing of Adam and his offspring, God provided an innocent lamb as an offering to atone for Adam’s sin of disobedience. This provisional Lamb was God’s Son, born in the flesh, Jesus the Messiah.

Friend, your faith will increase when you know that God loves you unconditionally; nothing can separate you from God’s love. “Neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

Rather than remind yourself of the things you don’t have, open your Bible and see what God says about your situation. The Bible is full of precious promises. They are blessings and gifts that God promises to provide for those who believe in Him. These promises include deliverance from sin, hope, freedom from addictions, depression, fear, anxiety, health, healing, strength, and financial provision.

Re-ignite Your Faith by Meditating on God’s Promises

The scripture says, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20). This means that God is faithful. Every promise of God is true and obtainable to those in Christ. It means you can have whatever God says you can have. To receive any of God’s promises, all you have to do is say “amen.” When you say amen, you agree with God.

To rekindle your faith, believe what God says about you. If God says you are blessed, who are you to say you are not? The promises contained in God’s word have the power to change you from within. The scripture says, “The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

If you are sick, don’t go around telling people how bad you feel. Don’t ask Google what’s wrong with you. Open your Bible and see what God says about healing. The Bible says Jesus bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. So stop saying you are waiting for God to heal you and receive the healing that God has provided for you at the cross.

Spend Time With God Daily

If you are serious about rekindling your faith in God, you must spend time with God daily. You can start with 5 minutes of prayer and 15 minutes of Bible reading. When I determined I would get serious about spending time with God, I started with 5 minutes of prayer. You would be surprised how much you can say in 5 minutes. I made prayer the first thing I did when I opened my eyes. Before I got out of bed, I would have a quiet conversation with God. I would thank Him for loving me and supplying my needs for that day. Then, I read my Bible for fifteen minutes every morning when I have my usual cup of coffee. The more time you spend with God, the more you want to be with Him.

The last thing the devil wants you to do is to read your Bible. He knows that if you read your Bible, you will learn the true character of God. He won’t be able to lie to you about God anymore. And as you become more intimate with God, you will discover He is not the demanding God many religions portray Him to be. You will experience the loving Father that our Heavenly Father truly is through reading the Bible. The more you engulf yourself in the presence of God, the more God will magnify your faith. God is our present help in times of trouble. Trust Him to help you rekindle your faith. He won’t let you down.
