“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold.”
—1 Peter 1:7
Refining gold requires intense heat to separate the pure from what is impure. In much the same way, God uses trials to test and refine your faith. Hardship, opposition, and suffering reveal whether faith is genuine. As fire removes dross from gold, trials purify the heart of the believer. When you trust God in adversity, your faith becomes stronger, steadier, and more radiant. In seasons of testing, the Lord is not abandoning you—He is refining you.
Sometimes God tests faith through shaking, and at other times through fire. In both cases, the purpose is purification. Gold is tested to reveal its quality, but faith is tested to grow stronger. Trials expose what is weak, deepen what is true, and teach us to rely more fully on God. Gold will eventually perish, but genuine faith will endure.
When Your Faith Is Tested
In Luke 22, while the disciples argued about their place in the kingdom, Satan was already moving to test their faith. His aim was not simply to trouble them, but to shake them deeply, beginning with Peter.
“And the Lord said. “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
—Luke 22:31-32 NKJV
Although Jesus spoke directly to Simon Peter, the warning reached beyond Peter alone. Jesus knew the disciples were about to face a severe test. Judas had already fallen, and the others would soon be shaken. Yet Jesus also made clear that He was interceding for them, asking that their faith would not fail.
When you profess faith in God, you should expect a testing of your faith. Jesus is your advocate, and He intercedes for you. Even when you feel weak or troubled by doubt, He can sustain your faith.
Today, remember that trials are not meaningless. God uses them to refine and strengthen your faith. Even when it seems He is distant, He has not forgotten you. Jesus, the perfecter of faith, will sustain you today and forever.
